Parks & Woodlands
Keynsham Memorial Park is adjacent to the Chew River just east of Keynsham High Street and encompasses a large space containing wooded areas, water habitats and grassy vistas. It was named to commemorate the war dead of Keynsham, and now commemorates those killed in the First and Second World Wars as well as the Falklands conflict.
The Park includes a wide variety of facilities including a park side cafe, two children’s play areas, a skate park, picnic area, bowling green, public toilets and multi-sport courts and a bandstand by the Weir. Entertainment at the bandstand is organised for the spring and summer each year.
Keynsham Town Council manage the multi-sports courts in the park. You will need to book these facilities if you wish to use them.
Manor Road Community Woodland covers an area of some 37 acres and is well used by the surrounding community. There are a number of ponds on the site as well as an extensive wildflower meadow. There is a well established team of volunteers, called the Friends of Manor Road Woodland, who work regularly on maintaining the woodland. They organise regular volunteering activities every 3rd Sunday of each month. To find out more contact Nigel Jacks, tel: 0117 986 4713.
Abbots Wood, once farmland, covers an area of approximately 20 acres on the edge of the Keynsham and has a number of different species such as oak, ash, wild cherry and field maple. The site was given to the Woodland Trust in 1996 and planted as part of the “Woods on your Doorstep Project”. Volunteering days are regularly organised including local school children planting thousands of bluebells in the wood. To find out more about Abbots Wood and their volunteering days, contact: Jonathan Burgess, Woodland Trust, tel: 07774786514 email: jonathanburgess@woodlandtrust.org.uk.
